Superior Patient Care and Transportation Services

Rapid Response EMS is committed to providing superior patient care and transportation services. Our certified EMS teams are dispatched by a medically trained staff in fully equipped vehicles with advanced communication and tracking technology to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient transport.

Interfacility transfers often require complex medical decisions. Referring facilities must ensure that patients receive the necessary care both during the transfer and after discharge. Rapid Response EMS offers a wide range of medical transport services, with the specific skills and medications provided during transport governed by RREMS protocols approved by the Medical Director, clinical guidelines, and medical staff.

Because our teams administer care specific to the individual needs of each patient our ambulance service descriptions are intended to assist receiving physicians and other hospital personnel in determining the most suitable transport option for each patient’s situation.

RREMS offers ambulances equipped for basic life support (BLS), advanced life support (ALS), critical care transport (CCT), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Each level of care is delivered by teams authorized to administer certain medications and perform specific procedures. Full details on these services can be found on our Ambulance page.

University of Florida Education

Rapid Response EMS critical care services are provided by highly trained master-level paramedics experienced in providing critical patient care in pre-hospital, inter-hospital, and hospital settings. Our Critical Care Paramedics (UFCCP) are trained by the University of Florida in collaboration with Shands Hospital and are completing their continuing education in ICU settings.

Emergency Medical Technicians

EMTs are first on scene supporting the paramedics, focusing on stabilizing the patient and preparing them for transport to a medical facility.

EMTs can provide basic emergency care and life support, which includes stabilizing patients, controlling bleeding, administering CPR, providing oxygen, and using automated external defibrillators (AEDs). They are not allowed to perform invasive procedures or administer most medications.

EMTs are often the first on the scene and focus on stabilizing patients and preparing them for transport to a medical facility. Their role is crucial in ensuring that patients receive timely and appropriate care en route to the hospital.

EMTs often operate under the supervision of paramedics or other advanced healthcare providers in the field. They are essential for the initial assessment and stabilization of patients.

Paramedic

Paramedics receive significantly more training than an EMT, often between 1,200 to 1,800 hours, and in some cases, it can take up to two years to complete a paramedic program. Paramedics can perform all the functions of an EMT, but they are also trained to provide advanced life support (ALS). This includes performing advanced airway management (like intubation), administering a wide range of medications, interpreting electrocardiograms (EKGs), starting IV lines, and performing some emergency procedures like needle decompression.

Paramedics are typically responsible for providing more complex and advanced medical care. They can take over from EMTs or work alongside them to manage critical and life-threatening emergencies, providing interventions that can be lifesaving before reaching the hospital.

Paramedics often take the lead in emergency situations, making critical decisions about patient care, and performing advanced procedures. They are typically responsible for the overall management of the patient until they reach a hospital.

Critical Care Paramedic

Certified Flight Paramedic

Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C) and Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C) are both advanced certifications for paramedics who provide care in specialized, high-stakes environments. While there are some overlaps in their scope of practice, each certification emphasizes different aspects of patient care, based on the context in which the paramedics operate.

Out team includes a CCP-C with FP-C certification. When a Rapid Response EMS ground transport requires transition to a helicopter or airplane we have the experienced certified personnel to continue the patient care.

The challenges of in-flight physiology, including altitude, pressure changes, and the movement of the aircraft. Our FP-C understands how altitude and pressure changes effect how medications work.
